Computers, cell phones, PDAs, iPods, automobiles and appliances are the end products that create the single largest demand for microelectronics and vacuum components. Our products are used in almost every facet of semiconductor processing, starting with crystal pulling of the silicon ingots that are sliced into silicon wafers and ending with the metrology equipment used to inspect the individual integrated circuits.
Nor-Cal Products is a preferred supplier of standard and custom or build-to-print components of all types to the 'front end' capital equipment manufacturers, who produce the 'cluster tools' used in semiconductor foundries or 'fabs'. Cluster tools contain several vacuum chambers providing critical wafer processing steps, including chemical vapor deposition (CVD), physical vapor deposition (PVD or sputtering) and etch. Other systems perform ion implantation and molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). These require contaminant-free cleanliness and precise performance from pressure control systems, isolation valves, vacuum chambers and other system components.
We also provide the piping, fittings and flanges used by the mechanical contractors to connect the vacuum pumps to the cluster tools during fab construction and expansion. The companies who manufacture the vacuum pumps and gas abatement equipment installed in the fab also purchase valves and other components from Nor-Cal.
